Allergy Care Clinics -

Welcome

My name is Kevin Wilkinson and I have allergies.  I set up Allergy Care Clinics to help people like me get treatment for what can be a terrible disease.

From an early age I have had hayfever.  As is typical with the disease I developed more and more allergies and these became more serious over time.  Only later have I found out that this is well known to allergy specialists who refer to it as the "allergic march".  This can lead to asthma and also can be avoided if early treatment is obtained.

About five years ago I had an allergic reaction to a hazelnut.  I sought advice from my GP and got little in return.  As a result I lived in fear of eating nuts.  Again, only years later, did I learn from an allergy specialist that I had a relatively minor allergic problem known as "oral allergy syndrome".

In the United Kingdom the treatment of allergies is a national issue that is gaining more and more attention.  The 20 million people who suffer from allergies, including an estimated 7 million that require specialist help, have to fight to be seen by one of only 30 trained consultants.  Only about 1% of patients a year receive a proper diagnosis.

The Royal College of Physicians, The House of Commons and The House of Lords have all written reports on this desperate situation.  They have written in these reports that "the health service is failing to meet the most minimal standards of care", "we are starting from a very low base indeed" and "clinical services lag behind those of many countries in Western Europe".

As a result of the lack of proper available health care, many patients grow frustrated and seek treatment.  It is very difficult to do so and there are many who have wasted time and money in their search for improved health for themselves and especially for their children.  Which Magazine has reported that "allergy tests could risk your health" and even though the tests cost between £45 and £275 many were "unreliable".  The articles can be found by clicking on this link http://www.which.co.uk/advice/the-truth-about-allergy-tests/index.jsp and this link http://www.which.co.uk/news/2008/08/food-allergy-tests-could-risk-your-health-154711.jsp.

The Times in 2010 investigated allergy testing and found that they "are misleading consumers by convincing them they have “allergies” that may not exist".  The article can be found here http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/life_and_style/health/article7034867.ece.

The British Society for Allergy and Clinical Immunology states "As an organization the BSACI does not recommend allergy testing for IgE at a distance or by untrained individuals and would not advise the use of unproven tests such as kinesiology, Vega tests, hair analysis, IgG to foods, etc.".

At Allergy Care Clinics our staff have years of allergy experience with both pediatric and adult patients.  Please look at "Our Staff" on this website for biographies.  After we take a detailed patient history we may advise that you take a allergy test.  We use IgE testing using a drop of blood to immediately identify more prevalent allergies.  Should it be required, you can have a full IgE test to look for less prevalent allergies.

We will then work with you, your GP and, if required, further specialists to offer advice and treatment.  Usually we can assist you during the initial appointment with no further visits necessary.

Our clinics are located in central London and in Croydon.

Welcome to our website.  We look forward to meeting you at our clinic in the near future.

Best regards.
